Bid on the Stars and Straps Throw Quilt on Ebay for Charity from November 8 to 18, 2019 and help do some good while getting something good!
In pursuit of my mission to good works through my business, I have set up my second listing to sell a quilt for charity! I plan to do at least one quilt per fiscal quarter; this is the quarter four for 2019. Currently, the plan is to make one quilt every three months and donate 90% of the proceeds from the sale to different charities and non-profit organizations. 10% of the sale proceeds will offset my materials costs (somewhat) and be reinvested in making the next quilt for the program. Some of the quilts may be made to a theme, such as this quarter’s quilt which is patriotic themed and being auctioned off for the benefit of the Armed Services YMCA. Rated 94% in intelligent giving by Charity Navigator, Armed Services YMCA distributes funds to military families around the United States to support the unique needs faced by families with current active duty service members.
About the Quilt:
The Stars and Straps Throw Quilt is hand pieced using an assortment of patriotic themed fabrics including images of stars, stripes and the US flag along with text and geometric prints set into a blue and white background. The pallet of the quilt includes the traditional red, white and blue along with burgundy and soft tans in a mix of new and vintage prints.
Backing of the quilt is a blue and red cotton flannel, adding to the cozy charm of the quilt. Binding is a mix of solid navy cottons.
Quilting is done in a approximately 2in spaced lines running horizontally across the quilt in cream Aurifil thread highlighting the handmade quality and adding to the durability of the quilt. This quilt is a generous throw size, measuring approximately 64in (163cm) square.
My father, a Vietnam War veteran, graciously modeled the quilt for size reference. Donation from this quilt will be made in his honor.
