In pursuit of my mission to good works through my business, today I have set up a listing to sell a quilt for charity! I plan to do at least one quilt per fiscal quarter. Currently, the plan is to make one quilt every three months and donate 90% of the proceeds from the sale to different charities and non-profit organizations. 10% of the sale proceeds will offset my materials costs (somewhat) and be reinvested in making the next quilt for the program. Some of the quilts may be made to a theme, such as this quarter’s quilt which is stationary themed and being auctioned off for the benefit of DonorsChoose.org. Rated 96% in intelligent giving by Charity Navigator, Donors Choose distributes funds to school classrooms around the United States to fill in funding gaps for materials and special projects.
About the Quilt:
The Writer’s Block Throw Quilt is hand pieced using an assortment of writing and stationary themed fabrics including images of vintage typewriters, glasses, pencils, paperclips and notebooks along with text, newspaper and geometric prints set into a graph paper background. The pallet of the quilt includes the mostly pastel tones of blue, purple, green, yellow and pink along with black, white and gray accented with a bold pop of orange.
Each block of this quilt is uniquely pieced following the 2017 Sewcial Bee Sampler Throw pattern by artist Sharon Holland, with additional crumb blocks for a truly one-of-a-kind quilt sure to become a treasured heirloom for the writing or stationary enthusiast.
Backing of the quilt is a large block of turquoise with text print and a few additional pieces from the feature prints, adding to the unique charm of the quilt. Binding is a soft multi-colored pastel print.
Quilting is done in a approximately 2in spaced lines running horizontally across the quilt in white Aurifil thread highlighting the handmade quality and adding to the durability of the quilt. This quilt is a throw size, measuring approximately 57in (145cm) square.
